This flexible PVC cable is coated by a reflecting cover that causes any light entering one end of the cable to be reflected internally in such a way that light entering one end emerges at the other end with minimum loss of intensity.

Any suitable light source may be used. LED’s, laser pointers or small diameter torches are most suitable. LED’s of different colours may be used together so that any resultant mixing, as well at their paths, may be seen.

This is an intriguing and important means of beginning the study of this widely used technology.
