Throughout the activities, students learn about how a film projector turns thousands of still, small pictures into a walking, talking movie. The objective of the series is to have students investigate basic scientific principles while exploring thematic topics through hands-on activities.

Experiment materials such as a hand lens, balloons, and a diffraction grating. The activity guide provides teachers with additional information on the topics covered, hints on setting up an experience station (a table or work area filled with materials and information related to the topic being explored) and keeping a science journal, and a suggested reading list, in addition to a glossary.
