Joint clips are used to secure connections between joints. They should not be used on any part of the apparatus that gets hot. They also should not be relied upon to hold any substantial weight (especially if they have been warmed). For example, reaction flasks should not be held just with clips, but always supported in a more significant way (clamped to a stand).
