This comprehensive energy conversion kit lets you experiment with conversion between different forms of energy. You get 6 devices that generate electrical energy from different power sources:

  • a hand generator, which uses mechanical motion;
  • a solar cell, which uses sunlight;
  • a windmill, which uses wind;
  • a battery holder (requires 2 AA batteries), which uses chemical energy;
  • a thermoelectric generator, which uses heat energy;
  • an analog wind power generator with LED light and Voltmeter.

Three devices use the electrical energy to generate light (LED), motion (motor), and sound (buzzer). Use the electrical energy generating devices in various combinations with one another and the electricity-powered devices.

You will need two AA batteries, a hairdryer or fan to power the wind turbine, and a digital multimeter (not included). You will also need a set of banana leads (not included) to quickly connect the devices together.

Use this energy conversion kit in the home or classroom for hands-on learning about different energy forms. It can also be used for science fair projects. Use a digital multimeter to measure the voltage and amperage generated by the different devices.

Also, included in this education kit are 16 different solid materials with an electrical conductivity test kit (requires 2 AA batteries) to learn more about which materials make good electrical conductors and which make good electrical insulators.

More Info

Thermoelectric Generator: Convert heat energy to electrical energy using the Seebeck effect. Thermoelectric generators are solid state devices that converts heat flux (temperature differences) directly into electrical energy through a phenomenon called the Seebeck effect (a form of thermoelectric effect). This smart little demo is designed to be immersed in approximately 60mm of water, with each aluminium leg being immersed in one of the included plastic cups. When the legs are immersed water of equal temperature, nothing happens.

Immerse the generator in cups of water with a substantial difference in temperature, and the fan will begin to spin. Includes 4mm DC input/output terminals and switch to redirect electricity to/from these terminals. The output from these terminals can be hooked up to a meter for measurement, allowing the user to monitor temperature gradient and output data. A DC power supply (up to 6V) can be routed through the 4mm terminals, demonstrating heating on one side and cooling on the other side of the thermocouple.

Hand Crank DC Generator: Power mini motors, lights and other small electrical devices using muscle energy. By turning the hand crank, this educational device generates 6 volts and a maximum output of 0.2 amps. It includes 2 x 35cm wire leads that can be used to attach the generator to small motors and other electrical devices. It is also fitted with a small light globe that can be powered by the crank. The transparent casing provides maximum learning value as students can see exactly how the electrical energy is being generated by arm movements.
