The smallest solar car in the world with a solar panel the size of a thumb nail.
The smallest solar car in the world is fitted with a solar panel about the size of an adults thumb nail. These toys are tiny! For a small car it really packs a punch. When the sun shines directly on the solar panel the teeny tiny motor comes to life and off it zips. A great way to engage children in solar and renewable energy units.
What you get
Solar powered micro car in a blister pack (made of plastic).
How does it work?
The solar panel on the top of the car transforms light energy from the sun into electrical energy which, in turn, powers the motor. Photons in sunlight hit the solar panel and are absorbed by special semiconducting materials. As this happens, electrons (negative charged particles) are knocked from their atoms and start to flow in one direction to produce electricity. A strong artificial light source like a spot light can be used as an alternative to the sun.
